Private Textile Tour
11 Nights / 12 Days
OVERVIEW
Textile weaving is one of the 13 arts and crafts of Bhutan. The distinct heritage of its rich and colorful textile owes its conservation and continuity to the generous patronage of the monarchs of Bhutan over the last century.
The unwritten weaving techniques are mostly passed down from the past through present to future generations through home-based apprenticeship with veteran weavers and institutional training.
Thuktro-Tours tailored this private / group textile tour featuring 3 textile destinations of Bhutan: Bumthang, Lhuntse and Trashigang. Bumthang (central eastern) presents the indigenous woolen textile Yathra (popularly designed and worn as jacket by the locals) and Mathra (a well-worn cross-hatch pattern fashioned into the national dress Gho for men and kira for women). Kurtoe village in Lhuntse presents the famed Pure Silk textile called KISHUTHARA, which is a treasured heirloom among Bhutanese women. Radhi village in Trashigang (eastern Bhutan) presents the famous Raw silk dress called buray with its distinct regional patterns. The three regions exhibit the regional textile heritages and weaving techniques of both back-strap and foot-pedal looms.
Exploring the three textile destinations, our guests will meet the master weavers and learn about their indigenous art of dyeing, prepare the loom and try the weaving tools and techniques with the locals.
Guests will also learn about the forms and functions of the Bhutanese textiles in thesecular (monastic robes), official (formal dress code) and social spheres. Along with the textile explorations, the tour offers lot more immersive cultural experiences.
Thuktro-Tours look forward to hosting and curating your private/group textile tour in Bhutan.
